Our engagements often start with a short, intense, but comprehensive assessment. This assessment is focused on the specific needs of each customer. For example:

	An enterprise desiring to move to component-based development may require a detailed look at their readiness status, to establish the most cost-effective activities and lay out a comprehensive transitioning plan.
	An organization may desire an outside expert look at the architecture of their system, to assess its weaknesses, scalability issues, and the proper usage of for example J2EE, .NET, or Web Services for the desired objectives.
	If you are a software product vendor you may desire a comprehensive architectural look across a set of product and organizations, to identify the major challenges in an overall rearchitecture of the product suite.

Over a large number of assessments on a variety of topics, we have evolved and refined a formalized assessment approach called COSM Assess. This assessment approach is recognized by our customers as much more powerful, cost-effective, and concrete than other assessment methodologies such as the Capability Maturity Model.

This assessment approach, and our mastery of both enterprise-wide and project-specific challenges, of enterprise architecture, advanced technologies such as J2EE, .NET. and Web Services and their role in small, medium, and large enterprises, of component-based development and of agile software manufacturing, allow us to take an in-depth look at an enterprise, or an architecture, or an organization, in a short period of time with concrete results. 

The strategic importance of an overall assessment is such that only our most Senior Consultants in the organization, including Peter Herzum himself, perform these assessments.
